If the Imps play quality over quantity (advanced over regular ties) then the game is pretty much even. Those matches can go either way in my experience. Whoever has the better luck, gets the better positions, or drafts a better cooperative team is going to come out ahead.

The Imps advantage shines at the swarm. 8 Tie, or the 6 named Tie.

Against a 3 man squad, those ties just overwhelm the Rebs. The Imps should have done better against you're squad. Kinda looks like they didn't focus fire enough.

You've discovered the same thing I have. The Rebs have to play numbers also. Wedge, Biggs, and a couple rookies with the agility droid for Biggs. Luke with the agility droid, Garven and 2 rookies. Stuff like that. You're rookie Y-wing with an Ion is a great counter if the enemy is running a Vader or other advanced. Dutch (ion), Garven (torp), and two rookies isn't too bad.

Protons are too expensive. You either use them early as hail mary shots hoping for some luck, or you have to take too long trying to set up the right shot that is way too easy to avoid for the Imps.
Focusing on a few high valued pilots with great skills/abilities/equipment leaves you too vulnerable when you lose a ship.

When the Imps get to 2 to 1 or greater odds, the balance tips in their favor.
