I nearly played him the other day to protect my Y-Wing, but decided not to and fielded a rookie pilot. The Imperial player attacked the rookie pilot anyway, thereby giving me Biggs for the cost of a rookie! However, I still lost - I just can't get the Rebels to come within several miles of a win. :( But I digress.

It does seem like you just force the Imps to focus fire on Biggs, when the Rebels really want the Imperials to split their fire. I guess when he's almost dead you could fly him further away, so that the Imps can't finish him off, but I still wonder if the points could be better spent elsewhere.

He is more than a meat shield, he is an agro magnet. Imagine flying him in a 3 ship formation with Wedge and a Y wing. You can force the Imperials to fire on Biggs, leaving you free to use your focus or targeting lock on the other ships to hit the Imps. All fire on one, while you use two to fire at whomever you like. Plus, if you give him the right droid and the right maneuver, you can keep him alive for a while. When the Imps converge, the one or two that you stunned with the Y wing ion cannon gum up the movement of the rest as they wheel to follow you.

This tactic has worked many times for me in the various games Ive played.
